Caril Ann Fugate was a teenager known for her involvement in the 1958 murder spree with her boyfriend, Charles Starkweather. She was 14 years old at the time of the murders.
Fugate claimed she was held hostage by Starkweather and forced to participate in the crimes. However, the prosecution argued that she was an active accomplice.
She was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison. After serving 17 years, she was paroled in 1976.
After her release, she lived a relatively private life, remarried, and worked in various jobs. The extent of her involvement in the murders remains a subject of debate, with some believing her claims of being a hostage.
